Training on the train

Often when you are at a new place, your eyes would observe more than what your brain would want to. At times these leads to interesting subjects as this time I felt like sharing the wonderful ways how people spend time at train journeys which are part and parcel of London lifestyle. Let's call it good planning or whatever, but people are mostly encouraged if not persuaded or forced to use public commute. Train travels back at home often turns out to be entertaining too if you can start a conversation. The objective of this write up is to give my friends on the web certain ideas on how productive their trips can be made. I have observed very similar actions during my days in Singapore which gave me the drive to jot down this time. The most relaxing, entertaining and interesting thing that many of us would love to do on a cozy climate controlled place such as trains in London would be to engage in an intriguing book. Books are world of its own and nothing to comment about. Anybo...

London, the way I see - Part 1

With all the loneliness around my single travel to London, I have started being more absent minded. Money comes secondary when it comes to mental happiness and a long way behind family and friends. Now that my family has applied for visa, my mind is slowly falling in place. There are few interesting things that I have noticed and thought of putting it down in here. This is not a travelers guide by any means and should not be mistaken as  it. I have met many interesting people who are Indians and never been to India as you could expect. That doesn't surprise me as I am tuned by the movies of Bollywood herself. London has in many ways tried to preserve its classic architecture and surroundings. Modern world seems to have had a good say in standard of living but not on thought process as I observe. The best part of London is the connectivity. There are tubes(underground trains) and overground rails along with the well known face of a bus. There are in-numerous taxi cars roami...

London, the way I see - Office break

On just another autumn day, I got out of office during midday to grab some midday munchies from the Sainsbury's next door. After the security doors of office, I reach the lift which made me wait for few mins and was thinking about the strange algorithm this lift is working on when 3 lifts are waiting in reception and the one that is four floors above me the destined for me. I even contemplated the idea of being daring and non-forgiving by taking the stairs. And to blurt out the real me, it didn't take me long in the mix of my mind to think about my family too. Yes, all this in few seconds to couple of minutes. My eyes were fixed on the red colored lift indicators which showed red and no color intermittently. But this time it was all dim. Call it a miracle, there came the red which I was waiting for all this while. I was more than excited to jump into the lift as though it was my trip to space. Now after this incident I would call it a trip to space where my mind has never be...

Another Day - but different today

Every day is a special day if you apprehend the fact that we have lived to see another day in our life. We seldom worry about this as the saying goes “As long as it runs, let it run”. Now this applies to electronic devices including our daily partner cell phones, trusted time keeper – the wrist watch and similar beings. Are we living the moment? Are we living life to the fullest? Have we really thought what we have to do with this gift of our parents called, life which at times are incidental? As with other things, we might have had hundred different plans which occur to be obsolete when we retrospect. I thought of discussing the feeling of nakedness when we are away from these time keepers and connecting partners. Ease of the most difficult thing when we actually do it would be another point to ponder. As quoted by one of my close friend over email, it is unlike me when I forgot my mobile at home. It is unlike anybody we could find in current world. Whatever happens, most of us ten...

Swami's life the way we never saw!

I happen to read a book which had the collection of letters which Swami Vivekananda wrote during his days in India and abroad. There were many takings from these chronicles. It is very true that the letters a man writes depicts the actual picture than any books or biographies could ever do. This book gave me a peep into Swami's life and his lifestyle. By the way, this is not written in hysteria. To those who believe Swami Vivekananda was just another religious leader, please have a second thought would be my recommendation. For a person like me who after all these years of following his life and teachings in many aspects this book changed the way I think and now am at a stage of self-ridiculing from what I see that I once thought. I am not judging a great person like Swami but sharing my thoughts on a worldwide subject. More than a religious soul he was a reformer that India could never actually benefit from. He was not a person who advocated only religious/spiritual aspect...

The gem of Deccan called Cyberabad!

This train ride in Rajdhani express speaks volumes about the state of Hyderabad outskirts. I had been to many cities via train but never found these many examples of water scarcity and unhygienic sanitation.  Every other guy was carrying a plastic bottle filled with water from nearby evaporated water sources which only contained contaminated concentration of water. People where all over the place sitting bare from waist and attending to their natures call.  I could notice that very many lakes and canals which should have boasted of clear, fresh water at its prime now contains full of plastic and thermo-col dumps. The water doesn't remain good for any use. Still people with few choices ahead, rush to these and carry what all they could get for their needs. Don't know about the health conditions at these area but I am sure, the citizens of this great country deserves more which if for definite.  From the outset, I have a feeling this place looks to be concentrating only o...

Grand parents are called Grandparents

Time was such that parents often decides to leave their little ones with grandparents. My childhood was no different during my school vacations. I was often left to accompany my grandparents on my mom's end at her family home. Grandparents symbolizes both of them but the influence and impact that they left in my live, forces me to separate them in my thoughts based on the areas they worked magic on. Even though the habit of spending my life there during vacations started long back than what I could recollect. I wanted to write down what all I could recollect. It would be second year at school, I was very fond of my grandfather's bicycle. I always wanted to take a long ride on it all alone which somehow materialized when I was 14years old. My grandfather used to conduct typewriting and shorthand classes in an institute which he founded after his retirement. This kept him busy whole day and my grandmother used to take care of me during those times. Day starts with routine e...

Dowry: Made in India

Often I have heard some of my friends saying the issue with India are related Patriarchal policies. Yes, but why is India still practicing this Patriarchy? What is this dowry that most people are against, including me? Have we ever thought how it still exists in this country after all these laws? I am sure one among you have seen or heard of how people negotiate to get higher dowry and drop from marriages which doesn't fill their purse? Is it because there are no laws in India? Dowry is mentioned as a natural gift in Dictionary.com which makes it interesting to start with. Dowry, I would imagine might have started with a good cause few millenniums back. It could also be seen from an angle where the men of India wanted their daughters or women folk to be settled first before their sons start settling in life. Often we see that Indian brides are offered huge sets of Gold, money, land etc during their marriage as a natural gift or by force at times without public knowledge. For fe...
